Dear Kimberly Moore

My son and I have been living in the shelter since November 2024 and I was embarrassed to

even tell anyone because I kept questioning myself about how I let my son and I get to this

place where we were now homeless. Never a place I saw for myself, however I told myself this

is my journey and this is where GOD wants me. As a mother it’s hard to still process because I

am supposed to protect and care for my son and I feel like I am failing him because we are

homeless in a shelter.

This last month has literally turned my life upside down. We had to evacuate the shelter on

Wednesday January 8th at 6am. The fire burned down my bonus grandmother house and other

homes were completely burned down as well including my son’s school. We were given 3

minutes to evacuate and a list of places to go. One of the places that the shelter provided was

closed. We went to the Pasadena Convention Center and stayed there for the majority of the

day. I thank GOD for my church members at Victory Bible Church. They allowed my son and I to

stay at her apartment overnight. My son and I have been displaced since Wednesday, January

8th and recently we’re allowed to come back to the shelter on Friday January 17th. I just try to

be grateful and not complain. I have experienced some tough times and I just keep praying and

thanking GOD. I know this won’t be my situation forever and until things change I’ll just keep

serving the LORD and asking GOD who I can be a blessing to with what I do have. Now we are

navigating a new living arrangement and schooling since the Eaton Canyon Fires. My son

brings me so much joy and the other day before he went to sleep he told me I was the best

mom in the entire world. That made me cry because despite us being homeless, living in a

shelter with no finances, my son still thinks I’m doing a great job mothering him.

My son and I lost our belongings in the fire. Some of the items I personally lost were items for

my business. I have a Christian clothing line for children. I had to put the business on hold until

further notice. Their are some some essential items listed below.

At the moment I don’t have a potential move in date. I just feel in my heart I will be moving on

my own soon because that has been my prayer for a couple months now.. I just want to be able

to provide for my son and give him a stable home to where we call ours.

Needs for the household:

2 Bedroom house, townhome, condo or apartment.

New Truck

MacBook or iMac

Heat Press

Cricut machine

I don’t have much room to store items at the moment since my

previous home burned down.

Sincerely,

Rachel

  • Rachel has shared a list of essential items she needs to start earning money and regain stability. She is currently living in a shelter with her son, Genesis, and during our phone conversation, she mentioned that she plans to stay there until she can get back on her feet and secure an apartment. In the future, she will also need assistance with household essentials, so I will keep her letter posted a little longer for those who would like to help.

If you’re in Los Angeles and would like to adopt Rachel’s letter by personally handling the shopping, we can arrange for pickup and delivery of the items when ready. Please feel free to email me directly at info@kimberlymoorefoundation.org.

Your generosity starts at $500, and you can donate multiple times until we reach our goal for each family. Together, we can restore hope—donors are also invited to join us in delivering these much-needed items to the families they support. Thank you!
